Brexit: Why Business Owners Should Remain Positive

So, our exit from the EU is official.

Unfortunately, since the announcement there’s been story after story outlining how this decision will have negative implications and lead to an uncertain future. We think enough is enough, let’s start being optimistic! Here’s some reasons why Brexit can be positive for the business owners of the UK.

We conducted a survey where over 1000 business owners were asked their thoughts on the outcome, an amazing 74.18% said they thought it would only have a slight effect, no effect or improve their business.

Freedom

“EU red tape imposes a significant cost on the UK economy – according to the Government’s own assessments, this now stands at £33.3bn.” Open Europe

Over 50% of people voted leave, and a percentage of those were business owners. Many entrepreneurs said they were sick of the restrictions put on them by the EU and that’s why they wanted out. Even if a business solely traded within the UK, they still had to follow strict and sometimes ridiculous rules causing them to lose a lot of money.

Once things settle down and new regulations are created with just the United Kingdom in mind, you might find your business is a lot better off and you can make decisions more freely! On top of this, you could save money which would otherwise be spent ensuring your business met the high EU standards.

Time

Although many people didn’t expect the vote to go the way it did, we have time to get used to it. Once article 50 has been triggered, it will take 2 years for us to become independent and by this point, people will be more than prepared for whatever is to come.

Now is the time for you to remain motivated and keep your business going strong. Work hard, value your customers and watch your competitors, by doing this your business will continue to grow in the right direction. Make sure you also plan for every eventuality; this way you will always be one step ahead of the game.

Support

Times are uncertain, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. People are coming together and supporting each other. In the UK, people love small businesses and know the value of them. You can buy things that aren’t available anywhere else and owners become friends.

Everyone knows business owners have been put in a somewhat scary position after the vote, so people will go the extra mile to show their support. There’s already lots of initiatives out there to get people to think local and shop small, such as Small Business Saturday and the Great British High Street, so as long as you stay driven your business will continue to thrive.

Capify has been supporting SMEs since 2008 and over this time we have learned that if a business remains inspired and motivated, they will find a way to get through almost anything. If you have any plans, we can provide you with invaluable funds which you could use for advertising, a refurbishment or stock, all of which will attract more customers to your business.
